Agency Brazil - Federal police officers carried out 11 search and seizure warrants this morning (9) to dismantle a scheme for falsifying medical school diplomas. In the action, carried out in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Belford Roxo and Teresópolis, in the state of Rio, as well as Montes Claros, in Minas Gerais, cell phones, lab coats, stamps, identification documents and documents with evidence of falsification were seized.
Approximately 60 police officers participated in Operation Catarse, which was initiated following a complaint filed by the Regional Council of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj). According to information passed on by the representative of the medical profession to the Federal Police (PF), applications for professional registration were found to have been submitted using falsified medical degree documents.
In April 2022, two people had already been arrested at the Cremerj headquarters itself, when they were trying to obtain the registrations. The investigations led to other suspects and companies involved, including two medical clinics.
The crimes being investigated are falsification of public documents and use of false documents.
