Rio 247 - The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando Pezão (PMDB), gave a statement on Monday, the 9th, supporting Vice President Michel Temer, the top leader of the PMDB, in the power relationship within the federal government.

"Vice President Michel Temer has always been very underutilized," stated Pezão. "He is a person who has a lot of influence in the National Congress, is highly respected, and has provided significant services to the country. It is very important to utilize him," the governor added.

Pezão also defended the approval by Congress of the fiscal adjustment measures proposed by President Dilma Rousseff. "The adjustment is necessary. The states contributed in the first month with fiscal adjustments. She is right to make this call. We are in a difficult moment, mainly because we are very dependent on oil," said the governor.

The PMDB member did not comment on the pot-banging protest that occurred during the president's speech. "I was in Piraí [a city in the interior of Rio where he grew up]. There was no pot-banging protest in Piraí."
