The Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) announces its support for Fernando Haddad for governor of São Paulo.
"We want to build unity among the parties debating the Federation and expand it," wrote federal deputy Orlando Silva on social media.
Current Brazil Network - The PCdoB announced this Thursday (3) its support for former São Paulo mayor Fernando Haddad for the Palácio dos Bandeirantes in this year's elections. The announcement was made at the party's headquarters in São Paulo.
"The @PCdoB_Oficial expressed its support for @Haddad_Fernando as a name capable of leading progressive forces to win the elections in São Paulo. We want to build unity among the parties debating the Federation and expand it. It is necessary to defeat Bolsonarism in Brazil and in SP!", wrote federal deputy Orlando Silva on social media.
"I wanted to thank @PCdoB_Oficial for their trust, on behalf of dear @lecibrandao, @orlandosilva and Rovilson Britto (president of the São Paulo branch of the PCdoB), in building the progressive federation of São Paulo," Haddad wrote on Twitter.
In an interview with the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, Orlando emphasized that it is "very important to open a dialogue with PSOL and Rede, and thus unify our political field." "All this without failing to recognize the legitimacy of PSB and PSOL presenting their candidacies," he added.
The decision by the PCdoB to support Haddad's candidacy in São Paulo seems to further complicate an alliance or even a federation uniting the PT and PSB. The socialists want to make the candidacy of former governor Márcio França viable for the São Paulo state government.
Communist leaders said the decision was communicated to the PSB in advance. “I believe (the PSB received the decision) calmly and respectfully. We will be together, and we need to have the most frank and transparent relations possible,” he declared. “We are convinced that we will have a candidacy that will unify this entire field,” declared the president of the PCdoB in São Paulo, Rovilson Britto, to the newspaper O Globo.
