Firefighters from the Copacabana fire station have been on the scene since 14:20 PM at Praça Nossa Senhora da Paz, in Ipanema, where concrete pieces from the Line 4 subway construction site, which were stored there, collapsed. The accident injured one person and caused the closure of part of Rua Visconde de Pirajá, one of the main streets in the neighborhood that connects Leblon to Copacabana, in the southern part of the city.

According to a statement released by the press office that provides services to the Rio Metro, the accident occurred at 11:45 am, when the tunnel segments – concrete rings that form the metro tunnels – collapsed onto the sidewalk of Rua Visconde de Pirajá, hitting a man who was passing by.

According to information from the Linha 4 Sul Consortium, the pedestrian was immediately assisted by the medical team and taken to São Lucas Hospital in Copacabana. The project will connect the neighborhoods of Ipanema and Gávea.

The consortium said in a statement that it is providing all necessary assistance to the victim. According to those responsible for the construction, the person "is conscious and undergoing examinations." The causes of the accident are being investigated, according to the statement.

The City Hall's Operations Center confirmed the closure of part of Visconde de Pirajá Street, between Maria Quitéria and Joana Angélica streets, for the Fire Department's operation, but did not specify the reasons for the closure.
