247 - The coordinator of the Coronavirus Contingency Center in São Paulo, Dimas Covas, stated this Tuesday (19) that “the virus is winning the war”. Covas’s statement was made on the same day that the State registered a record number of deaths in 24 hours.

"We are losing this battle. The virus is winning the war. I see these holidays as days of battle, the most important days," said Covas, referring to the need for social isolation in the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic.

"In these days, the population will have the opportunity to do its part. The days that follow are days of struggle, an intense battle against the virus, and the population has a fundamental role in this battle. If it shows that the rates can increase to something close to 60%, it will be demonstrating that we can win," said the coordinator. "It is a huge effort at this moment so that harsher measures are not necessary," he added.

According to a report by UOLSão Paulo recorded 324 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic to 5.174.
