Federal Prosecutor's Office indicts Ronnie and Elaine Lessa for illegally importing rifle parts.
According to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, the couple used a shell company to receive the weapons parts. The shipment was seized at Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro.
Sputnik Agency The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) filed charges with the 5th Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro against former military police officer Ronnie Lessa and his wife Elaine Pereira Figueiredo Lessa for the illegal importation of parts for AR-15 rifles.
According to the complaint obtained by Sputnik Brasil, the couple attempted to order 16 new flash hiders for AR-15 rifles chambered in 5,56x45mm or similar weapons. The shipment was seized in February 2017 at Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro. The items originated in Hong Kong, China, and are controlled items for use by the Brazilian Army.

According to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF), the couple used a shell company to receive the weapons parts, but there is no doubt that they were responsible for bringing the items into Brazil. The indictment stems from an investigation by the Federal Police (PF).
The artifacts were to be delivered to a gym in Rio das Pedras, of which the couple were partners, but their destination was an apartment belonging to the former military police officer in Jacarepaguá, where he stored and assembled the weapons. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting that the seized flash hiders be sent to the Brazilian Army.
Ronnie and Elaine Lessa are currently imprisoned and facing charges for international arms trafficking, including weapons and ammunition. Ronnie is awaiting trial for the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver Anderson Gomes in March 2018. Elaine has been imprisoned since July of last year, accused of international arms trafficking.
