MP appeals against swimmer’s fine

Initially, the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor's Office had requested a fine of R$ 150 for the American athlete James Feigen, which was rejected by the swimmer's defense; the Court for Sports Fans and Major Events set the amount at R$ 35, contradicting the Public Prosecutor's Office, which has now requested that the case be sent to the Attorney General for re-examination of the proposal presented by the prosecution; Feigen was one of four swimmers who fabricated a robbery last Sunday to cover up acts of vandalism after a night of drinking.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) The Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal this Friday against a court decision to fine American swimmer James Feigen 35 reais, stating that it disagrees with the amount of the punishment imposed on the athlete involved in the case that Rio police claim was a false report of a robbery during the Olympics.

Initially, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) had requested a fine of 150 reais for the athlete, which was rejected by the swimmer's defense. The Court for Sports Fans and Major Events set the amount at 35 reais, contradicting the Public Prosecutor's Office, which has now requested that the case be sent to the Attorney General for re-examination of the proposal presented by the prosecution.
