Originally from the state of Roraima, he was shot in the head when, along with two other colleagues, he mistakenly entered the community. The information regarding the soldier's death was confirmed by the Ministry of Justice.

On social media, the Minister of Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, lamented the soldier's death. "I want to express my condolences to the family of soldier Hélio Vieira, who suffered a cowardly attack and, unfortunately, died today as a result of his injuries," he said.
"Soldier Vieira is a true hero of our country. The President of the Republic, Michel Temer, will decree official mourning for the death of our hero. Honor and dignity to our police officers," he added.
