Fifth victim dies after pedestrian bridge collapse in Rio.

The fifth victim of the collapse of a footbridge over the Yellow Line yesterday (28) died today (29). Luiz Carlos Guimarães was 70 years old and did not survive his injuries.

The elderly man suffered severe head trauma, with cerebral edema and fractures throughout his body. He underwent two neurosurgical procedures at Salgado Filho Hospital in Méier, in the northern part of the city. His body has already been taken to the Forensic Medical Institute.

Other victims of the accident are being mourned this morning. Célia Maria, 59, and Adriano P. Oliveira, 26, will be buried in the Inhaúma Cemetery in the early afternoon. Renato P. Soares, 62, and Alexandre G. Almeida also died in the tragedy.

The accident occurred when a truck traveling with its dump bed raised and during prohibited hours crashed into a pedestrian overpass near Pilares. The pedestrian walkway collapsed onto a car and a taxi, injuring those who were on it at the time and closing the road until early evening.

The Civil Police are awaiting medical clearance to interview the four victims who remain hospitalized, including the truck driver, Luís Fernando Costa, 30, who was transferred to a private health unit in another municipality.
