Isabela Vieira, reporter for Agência Brasil - Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles said today (9) that he will announce, next Wednesday (11), a fiscal recovery plan for the state of Rio de Janeiro. The information was given by the minister at the end of the morning, after a meeting with Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão, in Rio.
The finalized plan will be submitted to President Michel Temer and the President of the Supreme Federal Court, Carmem Lúcia, who needs to approve the agreement.
"We will work on this until Wednesday, the teams will be in constant meetings, today and tomorrow, and the idea is that by the end of Tuesday (10), in Brasília, the Ministry of Finance and the government of Rio will define the scope of the plan to be presented from Wednesday to the President of the Republic, so that, if approved, it can be ratified by the STF," Meirelles stated.
According to him, the plan aims to definitively resolve Rio's fiscal problem, which suffered from the drop in oil revenues, and is based on austerity measures already presented by the state government. Among them is the increase in pension contributions from civil servants, rejected by the Rio Legislative Assembly, which will also need to approve the proposal from the Ministry of Finance.
Minister Meirelles did not rule out the possibility of privatizations being included in the state's recovery plan. "What we can say is that it will certainly be a plan that will definitively solve Rio's fiscal problem."
