Reuters Mastercard, one of the world's largest payment companies, has closed its office in São Paulo and asked its employees to work from home as a preventative measure to avoid contamination by the new coronavirus.

In a statement, the company said that an employee from the company in São Paulo visited the Mastercard office in Purchase North (New York) earlier this week.

"Following the advice of public health authorities, we have closed our offices in São Paulo and Purchase North, which are undergoing a complete sanitization process. In addition, employees who have been in contact with the affected employee and are developing symptoms should seek medical attention and work from home for 14 days," the company stated.

Mastercard also stated that its operations continue as normal.
