247 - The Municipality of Maricá, in partnership with the MARAEY project, the Firjan/SENAI System and UN Tourism, announced this Tuesday (14) the opening of 2.300 places in free professional training courses. The training is aimed at the civil construction and high-end hospitality sectors, with the aim of preparing professionals for the development of the MARAEY tourist complex, which should generate around 9 direct jobs in construction and 4.500 in operation, according to information from the municipality itself.

“Here in Maricá, we have an economy of people and families, where those who want to work and grow in life will have the support of the City Hall. MARAEY is not just a business venture, but an engine of social transformation, generating thousands of jobs and professional training for our people. It is a historic opportunity to consolidate a new economic model in the city,” stated Mayor Washington Quaquá.

The training program will be divided into two main areas. The first, focused on civil construction, will have technical, pedagogical, logistical, and financial support from the Municipality of Maricá and the Firjan/SENAI System. The courses will last between four months and two years and will include training as a construction foreman, building technician, storekeeper, administrative assistant, and secretarial worker, with nationally recognized certificates or diplomas.

The second focus will be on hospitality, endorsed by the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), a Swiss institution recognized worldwide as a benchmark in the field. The courses will last from six to eighteen months and will cover five areas: culinary arts, food and beverage, accommodation, administration, and customer service. Classes will be in person, using interactive methodology and instructors trained by EHL.

“Our goal goes beyond the comprehensive education of citizens. We want to generate employability and build a legacy where education is the engine of transformation, inclusion, and social development, making MARAEY a breeding ground for qualified professionals to work in any endeavor. The aim is to create fair and secure jobs, boosting the local economy and opening doors for residents,” said MARAEY CEO Emilio Izquierdo.

The president of the Maricá Development Company (Codemar), Celso Pansera, highlighted that the civil construction courses will begin in February and that by September 2026 there will also be training in hospitality, with international standards and a focus on services and languages, mainly English. “The arrival of MARAEY is a great opportunity within Maricá's new economy. We want residents to be prepared,” he stated.

MARAEY Hospitality Business School

In addition to vocational courses, the project includes the creation of MARAEY Hospitality Business School, a university campus with capacity for 700 students of different nationalities. The institution will offer bachelor's degrees, MBAs, and technical courses in the areas of hospitality, gastronomy, and business.

“The idea is to foster income generation, but also to contribute to the qualification and adoption of international standards for the hospitality sector in the state of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, creating a new wave for careers in the hotel and tourism sector nationally,” explained Aline Ribeiro, Director of Educational Projects at MARAEY.
