Mangueira will get a UPP (Pacifying Police Unit) within two weeks.

Rio 247 - The Secretary of Public Security, José Mariano Beltrame, announced this Friday (21), that the UPP in Mangueira will be implemented within two weeks. The decision comes just two days after the arrest in Paraguay of Alexander Mendes da Silva, Polegar, head of drug trafficking in Mangueira.
Beltrame inspected the assembly of the containers that will house the bases and headquarters of the UPP, which will be the 18th of a total of 40 installed throughout the state. The Mangueira UPP is expected to have 403 police officers.
The UPP will also have two other bases, one in the Caixa D'Água area and another in Morro do Tuiuti. A permanent UPP headquarters will also be built in masonry in the Telégrafos area, with access via Buraco Quente, in Mangueira. According to the secretariat, the unit's temporary administrative headquarters will operate in the Parque Candelária area. The two-story headquarters is still being prepared.
