247 - The 2nd Family Court of Jacarepaguá, in Rio de Janeiro, granted an injunction to a 42-year-old lawyer allowing her to vaccinate her 8-year-old son against Covid-19, even though the father was against it, according to the newspaper. The Globe.

The mother decided to go to court after her ex-husband notified her extrajudicially, in an attempt to prevent her son's vaccination. The injunction was granted last Monday (31) and the boy was vaccinated the following day, Tuesday (1).

>>> Parents who fail to vaccinate their children may face fines and even lose custody of the child.

"I got what I wanted, which was to vaccinate my son, but all of this was very draining. My ex-husband wouldn't leave me alone. I didn't want to have to do this (go to court), but he drove me crazy, he forced me," said the mother.

According to her, attempts to talk to her ex-husband about the importance of immunization were unsuccessful. "His fanaticism is so great that he lacks the capacity for reflection."

The lawyer explained that she only went to court because the boy's father sent her an extrajudicial notification. In the notification, he claimed that "in his interpretation based on research and data, the vaccine is still experimental and could potentially trigger negative side effects on health, especially in children."

Judge Gisele Silva Jardim, responsible for the case, highlighted that there is no basis regarding the boy's health condition "that would advise against vaccination against Covid-19, as argued by the father, who, moreover, expressly declares that he was vaccinated."
