Lindbergh Farias calls for popular mobilization: it's time to show our sovereignty.
The PT leader states that the session scheduled for September 2nd at the STF will be an "important moment" for Brazil.
247 - The PT leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), published a post on the social network X this Friday (15) to appeal for popular mobilization to punish Jair Bolsonaro and the other members of the coup plot.
"Urgent: Bolsonaro's trial scheduled for September 02nd. Important moment. It's time to show our sovereignty!", wrote Lindbergh.
Bolsonaro is a defendant in the investigation into the coup plot, is under house arrest, and is complying with precautionary measures. The former president is accused of five crimes. Combined, the sentences exceed 40 years of imprisonment.
Criminal case 2668 is the most advanced related to the coup plot denounced by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and targets core group 1 of the plot, also called the "crucial" core, a group formed by those believed to be the main masterminds of the conspiracy.
According to the complaint filed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, based on investigations by the Federal Police (PF), Bolsonaro was the leader of a coup plot that aimed to keep him in power even after losing his re-election bid in 2022.
According to the prosecution's narrative, the coup plot began to be put into practice in mid-2021, when Bolsonaro instructed the top echelons of his government to attack the electronic voting system, in order to discredit the electoral process and create a social climate conducive to a democratic rupture.
According to the Attorney General's Office, the attempted coup culminated on January 8, 2023, when Bolsonaro supporters who did not accept the election results invaded and extensively vandalized the headquarters of the Three Branches of Government in Brasília.
The Attorney General emphasized that the coup plan includes, among other things, the assassination of authorities as early as 2022, including Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.
All eight defendants in Unit 1 were charged with five crimes: armed criminal organization, coup d'état, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, aggravated damage, and damage to a listed building. Combined, their sentences could exceed 30 years in prison.
The final trial in the criminal case against Bolsonaro was scheduled shortly after all defenses submitted their closing arguments to the Supreme Court. The deadline for this ended last Wednesday (13).
With the exception of Bolsonaro's defense, which called the Attorney General's narrative "absurd" and an "imagined coup," the other defenses generally chose not to contest the existence of a coup plot per se, but focused their efforts on disassociating their clients from any potential conspiracy, even if its existence is proven. All the lawyers requested acquittal on all charges (with Abr).
