Vinícius Lisboa, from Agência Brasil - Former Flamengo president Kleber Leite confirmed on his blog that he delivered documents to the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF), who went to the headquarters of the sports marketing company Klefer, of which Kleber is a partner, on Wednesday. The Brazilian authorities are cooperating with the United States Justice Department, which is investigating a corruption and fraud scheme at FIFA. The PF and MPF have not yet commented on the action.

"I acknowledge that we received visits at Klefer from the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Police, in an act of cooperation with the American government, and that all the requested documents were promptly delivered. Klefer, through its directors, is entirely at the disposal of the authorities," says Kleber Leite, in a text published yesterday (27) on his blog.

In the text, Kleber Leite states that he was "surprised" by accusations made by businessman José Hawilla that the Klefer agency had paid bribes to sign a contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that granted rights to the Copa do Brasil, a championship organized by the CBF and contested by clubs in the country in a knockout system. Businessman José Hawilla, founder of the multinational sports marketing company Traffic Group, reached an agreement and will pay a fine of US$151 million for his participation in the FIFA corruption scheme. According to the United States Department of Justice, Hawilla confessed to participating in the crimes of extortion, wire fraud, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. Of this amount, US$25 million was paid at the time of the agreement, signed in December 2014.

In his blog, he further states that he "promoted dialogue" by getting Traffic, Hawilla's company, to share Copa América rights with the Argentinian companies Fullplay and Torneos y Competencias (TyC). According to him, the agreement ended a legal dispute over the competition's rights involving the companies, the South American Football Confederation, the federations, and their leaders.

Then, according to the blog post, Hawilla allegedly made an "almost desperate appeal" for Traffic to share the rights to the Copa do Brasil with Klefer. "He appealed to our old friendship, almost begging Klefer to share the contract we had signed with the CBF with Traffic. I took the matter to my partners and, more emotionally, we understood that we could accept Traffic as a partner in the project."

The former president of Flamengo also states that Hawilla went through difficult times due to a serious illness, and that "his mind must have been affected." "His mind, his character, and especially his sense of gratitude. Lamentable!!! What an end to his life."
