Kassab is working to get the PSDB caucus in the São Paulo Legislative Assembly to join his party.
Six of the eight PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) deputies are signaling their departure from the party and are expected to participate in a meeting with the president of the PSD (Social Democratic Party).
247 - The national president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Gilberto Kassab, invited the PSDB's members in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) to a meeting at his residence in the capital of São Paulo, scheduled for this Thursday (5). The objective is to present the possibility of joining the PSD during the party switching window scheduled for March. The information is from the newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
Of the eight state deputies from the PSDB party, six have already indicated their intention to leave the party: Maria Lúcia Amary, Mauro Bragato, Bruna Furlan, Carla Morando, Analice Fernandes, and the party leader, Rogério Nogueira. Deputies Barros Munhoz and Carlão Pignatari have not yet defined their party affiliation, but they also do not rule out leaving. At least six parliamentarians are expected to participate in the meeting with Kassab or send representatives to the meeting.
Tucano exodus
Most of the PSDB members who plan to leave the party consider the PSD as their main destination, although there are talks with other parties. Carla Morando, for example, is mentioned as a possible member of the MDB, a party also considered likely for the Secretary of Urban Security of the capital of São Paulo, Orlando Morando, her husband.
Carlão Pignatari stated that he has not yet made a decision regarding his continued membership in the PSDB party. "I still have to make that decision by the end of the month. I need to know if the PSDB will have a slate of candidates to continue or not," he declared.
Attempt to rebuild the party
The state president of the PSDB in São Paulo, Paulinho Serra, is working to keep at least five deputies in the party until the end of the year. According to him, the party is betting on the entry of new parliamentarians during the party switching window.
"The PSDB is in a process of reconstruction to regain its leading role. We should receive three deputies during the window, in addition to two remaining vacancies [out of eight]. Barros Munhoz and Carlão have already expressed their intention to continue," said Serra. He also said that one of the expected affiliations is that of Ana Carolina Serra, currently with Cidadania.
