The court wants the owner to restore the Icaraí Cinema.
Reports from the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (Inepac) demonstrate that the damage was mainly caused by a lack of maintenance and preservation of the property.
The court has filed a public civil action against Kopex Administração e Negócios, the company that owns the property occupied by the Icaraí Cinema in Niterói, requesting that it be ordered to preserve and repair the performance hall.
Reports from the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (Inepac) demonstrate the damage being caused to the Icaraí Cinema, mainly due to the lack of maintenance and preservation of the building. Among the problems are the sheltering of people in its unfenced outdoor area and the fact that it remained closed without receiving emergency repairs recommended by the Institute.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the property was built between the 30s and 40s in the Art Deco style and has historical and cultural importance, as it is one of the last remaining examples of that architectural style in Niterói.
