Federal judge Abel Gomes, rapporteur for the habeas corpus requests filed by five defendants involved in Operation Saqueador, by the Federal Police, today (20) ordered a court officer to verify compliance with house arrest by businessman Carlos Augusto Ramos, Carlinhas Cachoeira, at a hotel located on Avenida Atlântica, south of Rio de Janeiro.

The measure was taken after the magistrate received news that the defendant had left the premises on Saturday afternoon (16), without judicial authorization. Cachoeira had signed a commitment agreement with the Federal Court, informing the address of the hotel where he should remain under house arrest.

Abel Gomes ordered the court officer to investigate whether the defendant "has been leaving the location and where he has been going, obtaining his signature on the verification warrant, recording the time this occurred, as well as anything else deemed relevant to clarify the facts stated in the decision."

The rapporteur issued an official letter requesting that the Federal Police Superintendency provide information in the case file. In the decision, Gomes highlighted that house arrest was granted on the condition that the defendant remain under permanent house arrest at the address indicated in the commitment agreement until he demonstrated lawful occupation, at which point he would only be entitled to house arrest during nighttime hours and on days off: "now, the non-compliance with the validly established conditions (...) has repercussions on the revocation of alternative precautionary measures to preventive detention."

Businessman Carlinhos Cachoeira was arrested on June 30th during Operation Looting. Also arrested were businessmen Adir Assad and Marcelo Abbud, owners of companies considered shell companies by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, and the former director of Delta in the Central-West and Federal District, Cláudio Abreu. Delta's owner, Fernando Cavendish, was abroad and was arrested upon his arrival in Rio on July 2nd. They are accused of leading a scheme involving the laundering of public money and corruption responsible for transferring federal funds worth over R$ 370 million for public works projects to pay bribes to public officials.
