Court orders arrest of 97 fans in Rio.

Brazil Agency - The Rio de Janeiro court today (26) converted into preventive detention the arrest in flagrante of 97 fans who were involved in fights at the game between Fluminense and Vasco, valid for the Campeonato Carioca, played last Sunday (22). The decision was handed down by Judge Marcelo de Oliveira da Silva of the Fan and Major Events Court. The detainees will be charged with the crimes of gang formation and violence in sport.

On Wednesday (25), the defendants' requests for release and for the replacement of imprisonment with restrictive measures were denied by Judge Marcello Rubioli, head of the Fan and Major Events Court.

The Fan Court has both civil and criminal jurisdiction. In civil matters, its jurisdiction extends to all cases involving violations of a fan's rights, moral damages, fulfillment of promotions, and other service defects. In criminal matters, it judges any and all acts involving a fan, whether a minor offense or not.
