Young man experiences transphobic abuse after asking for a bathroom break at a restaurant in Santos: "You can't, you're a man."

Forum Magazine - Julie Correia Araújo, 28, filed a complaint against a snack bar in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, after experiencing transphobia when she inquired about the women's restroom. In an interview with Revista Fórum, the young woman recounted that both the employee and the manager of the establishment stated that she could not use the restroom because she was "a man."
Julie was at the beach with her cousins and some friends, and the group decided to go to the Surf Dog Lanchonete restaurant on Av. Conselheiro Nébias for lunch. As soon as they finished eating and were paying the bill, the young woman wanted to go to the bathroom.
“I went towards an employee who was in the break room, which was in front of the women's restroom. I looked at the young man and asked where the women's restroom was, and he replied: 'You can't use it because you're a man',” she recounts.
