Sister denounces young man's arrest in Jacarezinho: 'we can't even buy bread'
"We are hostages within our own community. We don't have the right to go wherever we want," denounced Erica Corrêa, whose brother was arrested on Sunday afternoon, the 6th.
247 - Erica Corrêa criticized the arrest of her brother, Yago, during a Military Police operation on Sunday afternoon, the 6th, in the Jacarezinho community, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro., reported the UOLYago had gone to buy bread and, upon leaving the bakery, saw a commotion and confusion, so he sought refuge in a pharmacy.
A police officer pointed a rifle at him and detained him on suspicion of drug trafficking, which relatives deny.
“We feel wronged. We don’t have the right to come and go within the community where we live. We can’t go out to buy bread because we don’t know if we’ll come back. We go to buy bread and we get arrested,” said Erica.
Military police officers from the Shock Battalion stated that Yago was with a teenager caught with a bag full of drugs. He was taken to the police station and his arrest was converted from in flagrante delicto to preventive detention. Yago has been in custody ever since, suspected of drug trafficking and association with drug trafficking.
Regarding the alleged friendship between Yago and the young man who supposedly had the drugs, his sister says she doesn't know if they knew each other. However, she might know them because they live in the same community.
A custody hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday afternoon, the 8th. In the morning, a protest was held at the entrance of the José Frederico Marques prison in Benfica, in the North Zone of Rio, where Yago is being held.
To help his family, Yago sells sweets made by his sister in the community. According to his sister, the young man takes medication for tuberculosis treatment and suffers from an unspecified psychological illness, sometimes acting like a child.
"He was arrested and surrendered with a bag of bread in his hand. The governor said he would help the residents of Jacarezinho, where is he? Governor, I need help to get my brother back on the street. We are hostages inside our community. We don't have the right to go where we want," Erica concluded.
