Glauber Braga, after the Israeli government declared him persona non grata: 'We must support Lula and increase pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza'
"There's no room for hesitation!", wrote the congressman, reinforcing that the Brazilian head of state acted correctly in condemning the genocide against Palestinians.
247 - Federal deputy Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) stated that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) achieved a "very important honor" by comparing the genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to the Holocaust (1941-1945), when approximately six million Jews were murdered by forces representing dictator Adolf Hitler (1889-1945).
In a post on social media X, the congressman commented on the Workers' Party member's stance. declared persona non grata by the Israeli government, which has Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister. Since October 7th of last year, nearly 30 people have died in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli bombings.
"The Israeli foreign minister said that President Lula has become 'persona non grata'? That would be a very important honor. It would be shocking if he were declared a friend of genocide! There is no room for hesitation! Now is the time to support Lula's position and increase pressure for a ceasefire," the congressman wrote.
This Sunday (18), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) compared the genocide in Gaza with the extermination of Jews carried out by Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany. "It is important to remember that, in 2010, Brazil was the first country to recognize the Palestinian State. We need to stop being small when we have to be great. What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people does not exist at any other historical moment. In fact, it did exist when Hitler decided to kill the Jews," the head of state told journalists in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
On Saturday (17), Lula stated that the definitive solution to the war in the Gaza Strip will occur "if we move quickly towards the creation of a Palestinian state". "Being a humanist today implies condemning the attacks perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians, and demanding the immediate release of all hostages. Being a humanist also implies rejecting Israel's disproportionate response, which has victimized almost 30 Palestinians in Gaza – the vast majority of whom are women and children – and has caused the forced displacement of more than 80% of the population."
In 2024, the Benjamin Netanyahu government was denounced at the International Court of Justice for the genocide in Gaza. South African authorities filed the legal document with the body, which is located in the Netherlands.
