Garotinho promises "criminals in jail" if elected.
The PR candidate for state governor criticized the current administration, which "warns" criminals before occupying an area, causing them to migrate to other regions; "The police's profile is not to give prior warning to criminals. They have to arrest them, just like we did with the biggest drug traffickers in Rio. That's what the people want," said Anthony Garotinho, recalling his time as governor.
Rio 247 – The PR candidate for governor of Rio, Anthony Garotinho, reaffirmed this Tuesday, the 26th, that he will arrest criminals in his government, if elected. During a walk in Manilha, in the municipality of Itaboraí, he said that he will invest heavily against drug trafficking and to end the migration of criminals from Rio to other regions of the state.
The candidate said that, when he was governor of Rio, the biggest gang leaders in the state were arrested, thanks to the intelligence work of the Rio Police. Among them, he cited Fernandinho Beira-Mar, Marcinho VP, and Mythor. Garotinho said that "the people can't take so much violence anymore. The residents of Itaboraí, Niterói, São Gonçalo, Baixada Fluminense, and even the west and north zones of Rio are terrified. This has to end. The place for criminals is in jail."
When questioned about his proposals to solve the problem of high crime rates in these areas, Garotinho stated that it is necessary to "investigate, arrest, and then occupy the areas." He also took the opportunity to appeal to the Secretary of Public Security, José Mariano Beltrame: "Arrest the criminals, Beltrame. The police's role is not to give criminals prior warning. You have to arrest them, just like we did with the biggest drug traffickers in Rio. That's what the people want."
