The Union of Employees of Cleaning and Conservation Companies is demanding a 47,7% salary increase and an adjustment to the food allowance from R$20 to R$27 per day. Comlurb (the city's sanitation company) offered a 3% increase, an amount below inflation.
The Labor Court has ordered the immediate end of the strike, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 100 for the union representing the category. According to the Judiciary, the decision is related to the failure to comply with the 72-hour notice period before starting the strike.
The Regional Labor Court (TRT) also ordered increased police presence at Comlurb's garages and regional offices to ensure that no worker is intimidated.
