Friar David, from Educafro, points out racism in police approach and contacts the Ombudsman.
A priest claims to have been the target of abusive police action on Sunday (18) after filming a homeless man cornered by police officers in SP.
247 - Frei David, 70, founder and general director of Educafro and a historical activist in the anti-racist struggle, reported to the Police Ombudsman and the Military Police Inspectorate of São Paulo that he was the target of a racist approach last Sunday (18).
He claims to have been the target of abusive police action after filming a homeless man cornered by four police officers in downtown São Paulo, according to... UOL reportUpon seeing the priest filming the incident, they went so far as to take his cell phone – which was later returned – and call him a "fucking PT supporter".
Frei David filed a request for investigation this Tuesday (20), alleging "arbitrary and improper use of force because they did not appreciate being filmed by a black citizen".
"There is no doubt that there was racism in the approach. What is interesting in this case is that it is a case of racism against one of the leaders of the racial struggle in Brazil, who dedicated more than 40 years to the anti-racist fight," said Frei David's lawyer, Márlon Reis.
