Flamengo fines Willians and keeps him suspended indefinitely.
Midfielder Willians missed the final training session in preparation for the match against Grêmio on Friday and was dropped from Sunday's game. The club did not disclose the amount of the fine and said the player will continue training separately from the rest of the team, with no return date set.
Flamengo's board fined Willians on Tuesday and kept the midfielder away from the squad due to last week's disciplinary incident. The player did not attend the last training session in preparation for the match against Grêmio on Friday and was left out of Sunday's game.
The club did not disclose the amount of the fine imposed. It only stated that the midfielder will continue to train separately, with no return date set, due to the indiscipline, considered "very serious" and "unacceptable." The punishments were announced after a meeting between the board, the player himself, and his agent, Sérgio Dias.
According to Flamengo, the player admitted his mistake and apologized for missing training last week. Willians, who has a history of indiscipline at the club, is reportedly facing personal problems, which Flamengo has not disclosed.
"Our meeting was very productive, and Willians' problems were discussed professionally. We know the player's mistake was very serious and deserved punishment. He understood this and knows that this attitude will help him. From now on, with humility, he will work professionally to regain his place within the squad," stated Willians' agent, Sérgio Dias.
