The president of Rio Eventos, Leonardo Maciel, said today (2) that the most delicate scenario for security and mobility planning for the World Cup final, at the Maracanã Stadium, on July 13, would be a match between Brazil and Argentina. He informed that there is still no plan to install other public venues for viewing the final game, should it be between teams with a large audience.

“I think it’s the most complicated game to execute. There are no other public screenings planned for now, and obviously it’s a separate event. We’ve organized six games, including the next one on Friday, but without a doubt, the final is independent. If we have the worst-case scenario, in a good way, like this one between Brazil and Argentina, we will organize the city for it, but in any case, the game is only in Rio de Janeiro, all the press is here, tourists from all over even without tickets to watch the game; security will have intensified planning and will certainly be demanded according to the game's scenario,” analyzed Maciel. Rio Eventos is a public company linked to the city hall that plans the organization of the city in large events that are not related to daily life.

The assessment was made during an interview at the Open Media Center (CAM), at Forte de Copacabana, in the south of Rio, to present the mobility plan for the game between France and Germany, Friday (4), at 13 pm, at Maracanã. According to the president of Rio Eventos, for Friday it was necessary to organize the scheme in order to serve diverse audiences, both for the fans who go to the stadium for the quarter-final game, and for those who will travel around the city to watch the game between Brazil and Colombia, at 17 pm, in Fortaleza. "This implies that we adopt measures in the city to absorb both events," he said.

Leonardo Maciel reported that the public order plan for the stadium remains the same as that adopted in previous matches, including the prohibition of the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages two hours before and two hours after the games, the fight against illegal parking and street vending, and support for police forces in combating the actions of parking attendants and ticket scalpers. The Municipal Guard, responsible for monitoring compliance with the measures, will operate with 2.310 agents and 15 tow trucks.

For the match, parking restrictions on streets surrounding the Maracanã stadium will begin the day before, at 5 PM. Regarding other traffic closures on streets near the stadium, the Director of Operations of the Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio), Joaquim Dinis, informed that the first phase of the closure will begin eight hours before the start of the match, therefore at 17 AM. In the second phase, the closure will begin at 6 AM and will remain in effect until two hours after the end of the match. "The closures around the Maracanã are always decided by the city government, according to the recommendations of the security forces," said Dinis.

On Avenida Atlântica in Copacabana, where the FIFA Fan Fest is located, the beachfront lane will be closed from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, between Post 6 and Rua Princesa Isabel. On the lane closest to the buildings, the closure begins half an hour before the Brazil game, between Rua Figueiredo Magalhães and Rua Princesa Isabel.

Once again, the recommendation, both for Rio residents and visitors, is to use public transportation, especially the subway and trains. “This system has proven very successful. We are hosting a World Cup with packed stadiums for the five matches already played, and the subway has been a comfortable, efficient, and effective way to get to the Maracanã. So, we urge people not to go by car,” he said.

The recommendation extends to the use of the three stations near the stadium, not just Maracanã, which has concentrated the largest number of people. Joaquim Dinis explained that São Francisco Xavier Station, because it only operates Line 1, usually has less passenger traffic and, therefore, may be more comfortable for users, despite being located a little further from the stadium.

About the motorhomes Parked at Terreirão do Samba, in downtown Rio, Maciel reported that there are currently 35 vehicles at the location, 30 from Argentina, two from Chile, and three from Brazil. The area has a capacity for 80 vehicles, and so far about 150 have passed through. The president of Rio Eventos added that if Argentina makes it to the final, there will certainly have to be an increase in the parking system. motorhomes in the city.

As was the case in previous World Cup matches, leisure areas will be closed on Friday, as will Quinta da Boa Vista Park in the northern part of the city. Due to the timing of the matches between France and Germany at the Maracanã and Brazil and Colombia at the Castelão in Fortaleza, it will be a full holiday in Rio, but sectors such as commerce, essential services, and media are not included.
