After losing Ronaldo in 1992 and Roberto in 1994, the family also lost Rodrigo Alves Cavalcanti, killed in Rocinha during a police operation in an area known as 199; both were police officers and died while fulfilling their duty to protect the population.
247 - The family of Rodrigo Alves Cavalcante, 33, buried the third police officer killed on duty this Thursday morning (5), at the Jardim da Saudade Cemetery, in Sulacap, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Cavalcante's father buried his third son, a police officer. Osaide de Holanda Cavalcante, 67, had to bury soldier Ronaldo in March 1992 and Roberto in September 1994; the first was a military police officer and also died in a confrontation with criminals, and the second was shot.
A military police officer from the Shock Battalion was shot in the early hours of Wednesday (4), during a foot patrol in Rocinha, south zone, in a confrontation with drug traffickers. He was taken by colleagues to the Miguel Couto Hospital, in Gávea, but did not survive. The policeman's death was the third in less than ten days in the community, and the ninth in almost two months. The case is being investigated by the Homicide Division (DH), which has already identified the main suspect in the murder.
The Secretary of Public Security of Rio de Janeiro, José Mariano Beltrame, said on Wednesday afternoon (4), that he will not change the occupation strategies for the installation of a Pacifying Police Unit (UPP).
