A total of 125 immigrants from 46 countries received U.S. citizenship on Friday in a ceremony marking the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty in New York. U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told the former immigrants that diversity strengthens the country.

The naturalization ceremony marked the beginning of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the statue, which has been renovated and now features five internet-connected cameras that will allow people to see the New York skyline and also the tourists who visit the island to see the statue. In addition to the ceremony, there will be a fireworks display.
