In a new poll, Garotinho even beats Paes in Rio.

A poll conducted in the capital and commissioned by Mayor Eduardo Paes (PMDB) shows the federal deputy leading in two scenarios: with Vice-Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão in the race, Anthony Garotinho (PR) has 24% of the voting intentions, and the vice-governor only 7%; considering Paes's name instead of Pezão's, Garotinho has 22%, with the mayor close behind at 20%; "I confess I was very happy and surprised by the result," comments the PR leader.

Rio247 – A poll commissioned by the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PMDB), and conducted in the city at the end of last week places federal deputy Anthony Garotinho as the leader in voting intentions in two scenarios for the Rio de Janeiro gubernatorial race. The data was released by the PR leader in the Chamber of Deputies himself, who, on his blog, said he obtained the "main numbers" from a politician with whom he had worked and who is now "on the other side," but "disenchanted."

In the first scenario, considering the name of Vice-Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão as the candidate, Garotinho has 24% of the votes, followed by Minister Marcelo Crivella (PRB), with 20%, and Senator Lindbergh Farias (PT) with 14%. Pezão registers only 7%. When the vice-governor's name is replaced by that of the mayor himself, the congressman registers 22% and has Eduardo Paes close behind with 20%. In this case, Crivella is in third place with 15%, and Lindbergh in fourth (14%).

"I confess I was very happy and surprised by the result. After all, even in 1998, when I was elected governor, the winner in the capital was Cesar Maia. My great advantage was in the Baixada Fluminense, in the São Gonçalo region, and throughout the interior of Rio de Janeiro state. To be ahead even of Eduardo Paes, the city's mayor, in a hypothetical contest, with all the media attention he has and the relentless campaigning of the city hall, is undoubtedly an exciting result," Garotinho opined.

See below the numbers from the survey released by Garotinho, which only considers the city of Rio de Janeiro:
