Dilma announces investment of R$ 30 billion in urban transport projects.

The package will include the construction of subways, exclusive bus lanes, and light rail vehicles; Dilma acknowledges that the subway is the fastest and most modern transportation system in the country.

Agência Brasil - President Dilma Rousseff announced this Monday (17) an investment of R$ 30 billion, by the federal government, in urban mobility works. According to her, the package will include the construction of subways, exclusive bus lanes and light rail vehicles (LRVs).

"People spend a significant portion of their time commuting between home, work, school, and other activities. Therefore, ensuring quality, fast, modern, safe, and affordable public transportation means improving the lives of everyone," he said.

In her weekly radio program "Coffee with the President," Dilma Rousseff noted that in Brazilian cities where subway services already exist, the transportation system is recognized as fast, modern, high-quality, and comfortable by various social classes. In Curitiba, Paraná, alone, she stated that the subway will be responsible for transporting approximately 300 people every day.

In Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, according to the president, the idea is to build 11 bus integration terminals. The project should include seven municipalities in the metropolitan region. In Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, there will be eight corridors. Another public transport option is urban trains, with plans for construction in São Leopoldo and Novo Hamburgo, both in Rio Grande do Sul, and in 21 other cities.

"More and more Brazilians are having the opportunity to buy their own car. This is a sign that the population's income is improving and the country continues to grow. Buying your own car also means having transportation for leisure days, so you can go out with your family. But the solution to transportation in large cities lies in investing in quality public transportation. Without it, cities turn into chaos," Dilma concluded.
