Train derailment affects 600 in Rio.
SuperVia teams are working at the scene of the incident to repair the track infrastructure. On its Twitter profile, the MetrôRio concessionaire announced that it is operating with extra trains to meet the increased demand. Even so, the company had to control the flow of passengers entering the Pavuna and Triagem stations to avoid overcrowding.
Rio de Janeiro - A train derailed as it approached São Cristóvão station, in the north zone, at 5:15 am today (22), and blocked access from the main branches to Central do Brasil station. According to SuperVia, there were no injuries, but the accident compromised the network in the section between Mangueira and Central.
Due to the blockade, the Saracuruna and Belford Roxo lines are only running as far as Triagem station, and the Japeri, Santa Cruz, and Deodoro lines are stopping at Engenho de Dentro station, ten stations from Central Station.
The concessionaire states that it has reinforced its customer service and security teams and has begun distributing travel vouchers, delay statements, and refunds to customers.
Yasmim Secron, a 24-year-old university student, recounts that she took the train from Inhoaíba Station at 7:20 am, but decided not to continue when she learned it wouldn't reach Central Station. "The train pulled up to the platform normally, and only after everyone had boarded did the driver announce that it would stop at Engenho de Dentro. So, I decided to get off at Campo Grande [two stations later] because I imagined the chaos that would ensue. When I got off, the station was packed!" she says, adding that she tried to take the bus but encountered long lines in the neighborhood.
At 9:20 am, when she responded to BRAZIL AGENCYYasmin still hadn't managed to get to work, where she was supposed to start at 9 am. She was stuck in a traffic jam on Avenida Brasil.
