Senator Marcelo Crivella (PRB-RJ) today (2) submitted a request for leave of absence from his mandate for 122 days. The leave was read in the House plenary and will be published in the Senate Journal.

Crivella will step away from legislative activity to dedicate himself to the campaign for mayor of Rio de Janeiro in the October elections. The senator's alternate, Eduardo Lopes (PRB-RJ), is expected to assume the position during the leave period, as he has done on other occasions when Crivella was absent.

Yesterday (1st), Senator Walter Pinheiro (no party affiliation-BA) also said goodbye to his Senate colleagues. At the invitation of Governor Rui Costa, he stepped down to assume the position of Secretary of Education of Bahia. In his place, alternate Roberto Muniz (PP) will take office.

Muniz will take office in the Senate as soon as Pinheiro assumes his position in Bahia, which could happen between the end of this week and the beginning of next week. Eduardo Lopes will not need to be sworn in because he has already filled Crivella's seat on other occasions and is therefore exempt from the formality.
