247 - Former Rio de Janeiro mayor and federal deputy Marcelo Crivella (Republicanos) was convicted, in the first instance, of abuse of economic power in the 2020 election campaign. He was also fined R$ 150 and faced a request for the revocation of his mandate in the House.

Judge Márcia Santos Capanema de Souza, of the 23rd Electoral Zone, argued that the candidate violated the Election Law: "To make or allow promotional use in favor of a candidate of the free distribution of goods and services of a social nature financed or subsidized by the Public Power".

Crivella is accused in the Regional Electoral Court of Rio of abuse of economic power for having sent, during the election campaign, three bills that granted tax and fiscal benefits.

In addition to the fine, the judge ruled that Crivella will be ineligible to run for office for a period of 8 years, starting from the 2020 election. Consequently, his term as a federal deputy would be revoked. An appeal is possible. (With information from...)The Globe).
