247 - The mayor of the city of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, stated this Monday (8), that closing the capital of São Paulo is something “discarded” in the current reality of the pandemic. According to the head of the municipal Executive, “reopening protocols for each sector” have been established, with the aim of ensuring that the easing does not occur in “any way”.

"Nothing against small towns, but here when we talk about reopening commerce we're talking about thousands of establishments and thousands of people who may come to frequent the city of São Paulo," said Covas at a press conference at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, the seat of the São Paulo state government.

"Therefore, one of the concerns that is in the state decree and reproduced in the municipal decree is (the use of) 20% capacity in commerce," he said.

Regarding closing the city to people from other regions, he stated that it is made up of "migrants and immigrants" and that, therefore, isolating the municipality is out of the question. "Closing the city of São Paulo is something that is currently ruled out on the horizon for the city government."
