The victim is a 62-year-old man who was hospitalized in a private hospital in the capital of São Paulo. State health departments across the country confirm at least 314 cases of the disease. The São Paulo state department confirms at least 162 cases.
The man lived in the city of São Paulo and had a history of diabetes and hypertension. He also had benign prostatic hyperplasia, a benign enlargement of the prostate that is not a disease, but something common in older men that can cause urinary tract infections.
"We have to rethink prevention measures more and more, especially since this is a community death," the secretary stated.
