Despite the quarantine, São Paulo has seen a 56% drop in reported cell phone thefts.

The number of reported cell phone thefts and robberies in the state of São Paulo fell by 56% between March 24 and 30 of 2019 (without quarantine) and 2020 (with quarantine). A decrease in these crimes was recorded in 268 municipalities across the state.

247 - The number of reported cell phone thefts and robberies in the state of São Paulo fell by 56% between March 24 and 30 of 2019 (without quarantine) and 2020 (with quarantine). In the city of São Paulo, the reduction was 54% (4.300 reports last year, compared to 1.900 in these seven days). The data, which are provisional, are from the state's Public Security Secretariat and were analyzed by [source missing]. A decrease in these crimes was recorded in 268 municipalities in the state; the number remained the same in 27; and an increase in 35 (the survey covers those that had at least one record in the periods analyzed).

Among the cities that had more than 50 occurrences in 2019, the largest decreases were identified in Mauá (69% reduction), Campinas, and Santo André (67% reduction in both).
