Chico joins the campaign against lowering the age of criminal responsibility.
The singer appears in a photo published on social media wearing a t-shirt with the phrase "reduction is not the solution"; the debate resurfaced with the death of cyclist Jaime Gold, in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Rio de Janeiro.
Forum Magazine - Singer and songwriter Chico Buarque has spoken out against lowering the age of criminal responsibility. The artist's photo was published on the Facebook page "Amanhecer Contra a Redução" on Thursday (21), wearing a shirt supporting the campaign. The print features the phrase "Reduction is not the solution".
"Chico Buarque joined the fight against lowering the age of criminal responsibility! Because tomorrow will be another day!", says the photo caption. The debate resurfaced with the death of cyclist Jaime Gold in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Rio de Janeiro. It is suspected that the crime was committed by teenagers. However, Gold's ex-wife, Marcia Amil, says she is against changing the age of criminal responsibility and criticized those who try to take advantage of the tragedy to justify their opinions.
"I don't even know if they were minors, but I know that Jaime was a victim of victims, who are victims of victims. As long as our country doesn't prioritize health, education, and security, there will be more and more doctors being killed in the country's postcard image. And not only doctors, after all, citizens die every day throughout the city, not just in the South Zone," she declared to the newspaper O Dia, extending her criticism to the press, which often ignores the murders that occur in favelas and less privileged regions.
