Amarildo Case: Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice denies habeas corpus to military police officers.
The Rio de Janeiro State Court of Justice denied the habeas corpus petition filed by the defense of several military police officers accused of involvement in the death of construction worker Amarildo de Souza on July 14th of this year in Rocinha, in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro city; in total, arrest warrants were issued for 25 members of the force; Amarildo's body has not yet been located.

In a ruling published this Monday (25), the rapporteur, Judge Marcus Quaresma Ferraz, states that the information gathered during the investigation is sufficient to have evidence of the materiality of the crime.
"The manner and execution of the extremely serious crimes perpetrated, the conduct of the accused during and after the commission of the offenses, and other circumstances, including the immense public outcry and repercussions, undermining the very guarantee of public order, demonstrate the need for custody," justified Judge Marcus Quaresma Ferraz in his decision.
