Rio de Janeiro - The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, said today (29) that the best way to defend demands is through dialogue, when speaking about the occupation of the plenary hall of the Pedro Ernesto Palace, headquarters of the Rio Municipal Chamber, by teachers. Cabral did not want to comment on whether there were excesses by the Military Police. during the eviction, last night (28), as reported by teachers. He said he did not see the images and therefore cannot judge the behavior of the police officers.

“Having public participation is very important,” he assessed. “Democracy establishes rites and should always, in theory, be that way. As a former parliamentarian and [former] head of the Legislative branch, [I think] public participation should always be within what are called rights and duties, but whether there was confrontation or not, I don't know. I didn't see the images. In theory, occupying the plenary of the Legislative branch is not the best way to dialogue and follow any kind of debate,” he said.

The governor made the statements during the inauguration of the City of Police project in Jacarezinho, in the northern zone of Rio, which represents an investment of R$ 170 million. The complex will house police investigations, equipped to accommodate 13 specialized police stations, as well as the Special Resources Coordination (CORE), five departments of the Police Headquarters, and an administrative office. According to the state government, the Rio police will gain agility in the exchange of information between specialized police stations.
