Bridgestone lays off 600 employees and ends car production in Greater São Paulo.

The company's goal is to concentrate the manufacturing of tires for trucks, tractors, and off-road vehicles, as well as Firestone Airide (air springs), solely at this location.

247 Bridgestone will cease production of passenger car tires at its factory in Santo André, in the São Paulo metropolitan area. The company confirmed the dismissal of 600 of its 3.400 employees.

According to the UOL portalThe goal is to concentrate the manufacturing of tires for trucks, tractors, and off-road vehicles, as well as Firestone Airide (air springs), solely at this location.

The production of tires for passenger cars and light trucks will now take place at the brand's factory in Bahia. 

"This decision is part of an ongoing process of evaluating the business and the market to ensure the company's competitiveness and determine the best allocation of resources, optimizing the portfolio, processes, and culture to continue serving the needs of consumers and the market," he said.

Regarding the layoffs, the company stated that "it is working with the union and its employees on ways to reduce the impact of this decision on the affected production line team."
