Firefighters backtrack and deny breach of the Pau Branco mine dam. There was an overflow.

247 - The Minas Gerais Fire Department backtracked this Saturday (8) after initially confirming that the The dam at the Pau Branco mine in Nova Lima, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, is believed to have collapsed.

The corporation's spokesperson, Pedro Aihara, states that there was no breach, but rather an overflow of a structure designed to contain water accumulated from the rains.

At 10:59 AM, firefighters relayed initial information to the press that the dam had ruptured. At 11:40 AM, 41 minutes later, the information was corrected.

A section of the BR-040 highway, which connects Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro, was affected by a mud and water flow. There is a 2km traffic jam in both directions.

The dam at the Pau Branco mine is the responsibility of the Vallourec group.
