Bolsonaro rules out supporting Ricardo Nunes' reelection as mayor of São Paulo.
Jair Bolsonaro's statement was made during a closed meeting at Agrishow.
247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has told allies and interlocutors that he will not support the current mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), in his attempt to run for a second term leading the city's executive branch. The reason is linked to the fact that Nunes did not support him in last year's presidential election and because he has stated that he is centrist, not right-wing.
According to the column DashboardAccording to Folha de S. Paulo, Bolsonaro's statement "took place in a closed meeting at Agrishow, which was attended by, among others, agribusiness entrepreneur Paulo Junqueira and congressmen Mario Frias (PL-SP), Lucas Bove (PL-SP), Tomé Abduch (Republicanos-SP) and Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), who intends to participate in the 2024 election."
The statement by the former occupant of the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace) goes against the wishes of the PL leadership, which holds positions in the municipal government and tends to support Ricardo Nunes' reelection.
According to the report, "Bolsonaro's displeasure with Nunes clashes with the defense that Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), national president of the PP, has been making of support for the mayor. For Bolsonaro's former minister, the São Paulo election will be an embryo of the 2026 national dispute, and, therefore, parties such as MDB, PP, PL, Republicanos and PSD should unite to defeat Guilherme Boulos (PSOL)."
