Beltrame: Police will not rest until those involved in the rape are arrested.

Rio de Janeiro's Secretary of Public Security, José Mariano Beltrame, stated that authorities "will not rest until they identify and arrest" all those involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl, which occurred last weekend. The young woman was allegedly raped by 33 heavily armed men in a house atop Morro São José Operário, in Praça Seca. "We have two police stations investigating this barbarity, for a swift response to society. This episode shows how criminal factions operate their punishments, still trying to silence victims and witnesses. They will not succeed. We will not rest until we identify and arrest everyone," said Beltrame.

Douglas Corrêa, reporter for Agência Brasil - The Secretary of Public Security of Rio de Janeiro, José Mariano Beltrame, stated today (27) that the authorities "will not rest until they identify and arrest" all those involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl, which occurred last weekend in Jacarepaguá, west of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the young woman's statement to the police, she was allegedly raped by 33 heavily armed men in a house at the top of Morro São José Operário, in Praça Seca. The men were reportedly linked to drug trafficking in the region.

"We have two police stations investigating this barbarity, to provide a swift response to society. This episode shows how criminal factions operate their punishments, still trying to silence victims and witnesses. They will not succeed. We will not rest until we identify and arrest everyone involved," Beltrame said in a statement published on the department's Twitter account.

The Human Rights Commission of the Rio de Janeiro City Council also spoke out against the incident and demanded "swift investigation, identification of those responsible and punishment of those involved in the crime." "This is an act of barbarity and cowardice," said the commission's president, Jefferson Moura (Rede), in a statement.
