Rio de Janeiro - Bank workers in the city of Rio decided in an assembly on Thursday night (12) to reject the proposal presented by the National Federation of Banks (Fenaban) for a 6,01% readjustment for the category, which has a base date this month, and to call a strike for next Thursday (19) for an indefinite period. The bank workers are demanding an 11,93% increase, with 6,93% referring to inflation measured by the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) and 5% real gain, in addition to social clauses.

According to the president of the Rio Bank Workers Union, Almir Aguiar, the category has a new assembly scheduled for next Tuesday (18), at the Galeria dos Empregados no Comércio, "to ratify the decision taken at today's assembly and to comply with the legal requirements of the Strike Law, which requires a second assembly to ratify the strike".

Since the bank workers' demands are unified, employees of Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal will also be halting activities, as will workers from private banks.
