247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) approval rating showed a strong recovery in the city of São Paulo. According to a survey released this Wednesday (15) by the Paraná Pesquisas institute, Lula gained ten percentage points of approval between March and October of this year, while his disapproval rate fell by the same proportion.

The advance comes in the context of the president's reaction to the tariff increase imposed in July by the current president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Brazilian products. Lula's stance on the measure had a positive impact and yielded political gains. Other institutes, such as Quaest and AtlasIntel, have also recorded similar movements in recent national surveys.

Approval progress in numbers

In March, 38,2% of São Paulo residents approved of Lula's administration, while 58,1% disapproved. By October, approval had jumped to 48,8%, practically tying with disapproval, which fell to 48%.

The situation had already shown signs of improvement in August, when an interim survey indicated a growing trend in the president's popularity in the country's largest city.

Government evaluation and perception of management

When the question refers specifically to the administration, the numbers are also more favorable to Lula. In October, 34,8% of respondents rated the government as "excellent" or "good" – a significant increase compared to the 26% recorded in March. Negative perceptions, on the other hand, fell from 48,5% to 38,1% in the same period.
