Alison and Emanuel win and advance in beach volleyball.

The Brazilians recovered this Wednesday (19) with a victory over the Dominicans Perez and Recio by 2 sets to 0 and guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals.

After stumbling the previous day, when they were surprised and lost to the Cubans Gonzalez and Piña, the Brazilians Alison and Emanuel managed to recover this Wednesday at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara. And, with a victory over the Dominicans Perez and Recio by 2 sets to 0 (21/13 and 21/12), in the arena set up in the city of Puerto Vallarta, they secured a place in the quarterfinals of the beach volleyball tournament.

Having lost to the Cubans, Alison and Emanuel needed to win this Wednesday, in the third and final round of Group D, to guarantee qualification. Thus, the Brazilians finished second in the group, with two wins – they also beat the Costa Ricans Escobar and Monge in their debut – just behind Gonzalez and Piña, who went through the first phase of the Pan American Games with a 100% success rate.

Current World Tour and World Championship champions Alison and Emanuel are the favorites for the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara. Now, having passed the first phase of the competition, they return to the court this Thursday to compete in the quarterfinals. But the Brazilians' opponents have not yet been defined: it will be the pair that finishes first in Group A, which ends this Wednesday.
