247 - The Minister of Education, Abraham Weintraub, appointed civil servant Josué de Oliveira Moreira, affiliated with the PSL since 2018, as rector of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). Moreira, however, did not contest the election for the position in December of last year. The minister published an order in the Friday (17) edition of the Official Gazette of the Union formalizing the decision.

Professor José Arnóbio de Araújo Filho, the current general director of the IFRN Central campus, was elected rector with 48,25% of the valid votes. In second place was Wyllys Abel Farkatt Tabosa, rector of the previous administration, with 42,26%.

In an interview with G1The elected rector, José Arnóbio, stated that the MEC's action is "unjustified." "To our surprise, this morning I saw that the elected rector was not going to take office and that they were going to put an intervener in charge of the institution," he added. "This process will be taken to court, because such an authoritarian action as what happened with IFRN is unjustified," he added.
