By Ricardo Fonseca, from Blog Advertising - Federal deputy Waldir Maranhão (AVANTE-MA) submitted last Wednesday (9), in the Chamber of Deputies, request No. 7676 2017, which asks for the transformation of a Plenary Session of the Federal Chamber into a General Committee to debate the privatization of Eletrobrás.

"The privatization package recently announced by Michel Temer's administration is already considered the largest since the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government. Of particular note in this announcement is the immense repercussion caused by the intention to privatize Eletrobrás, the largest company in the Latin American electricity sector, by the end of the first half of 2018," states the introduction to the justification in the request.

"Considering the differing opinions regarding privatizations, the sector's relevance to the country's development, and the company's importance on the national stage, I request the support of my colleagues in approving this request." This concludes the text, signed by leaders of 13 political parties: PV, PDT, PSOL, PSB, PCdoB, PT, REDE, PODEMOS, AVANTE, PPS, PHS, PEN, and PRB.

The congressman from Maranhão (who is a pre-candidate for the Senate) took the lead and, as a good defender of the interests of the Brazilian people, will spare no effort to ensure that the discussion about the privatization of Eletrobrás remains mere rhetoric on the floor of the Federal Chamber.

Waldir Maranhão wants this General Commission to effectively discuss, in minute detail, the necessity or not of privatizing a company so important to national sovereignty.
